My Salvation Experience
I had a very good and proper Christian upbringing while growing up in Minnesota. However, I never really had any experiences of God, nor was I even taught that I needed to be saved. So, as the years went on, everything of religion became a form, something I did out of duty, and it seemed somewhat boring. I stopped going to church regularly on Sundays while in college, plus my standard of living started going downhill.
When I came to Berkeley, CA for graduate school, I met a Christian on campus who talked to me about the Spirit living in us. Everything he said was directly from the Bible. I was interested and later went to a conference where I received the Lord Jesus into me. That was the most dynamic experience of my life. I had a revelation that Jesus was real, was alive, and was inside of me! I was so excited that, although I'm a very quiet and shy person, I told all my friends. The Bible suddenly became living to me. I just wanted to stay in my dorm room and read the Bible instead of doing other things I used to love such as playing sports, watching TV, and playing games. The Lord Jesus was just so much more wonderful to me that those other things didn't seem to matter.
I am so thankful to the Lord for His mercy that I could be brought to know Him and to be meeting with the local church in Berkeley. Through the years I really have been helped to love the Lord and know His Word. I am so happy that God is now the center of my life and that I am growing in my Christian life.
